1. Iron doesn't rust in dry air. 在干燥的空氣中鐵不容易生銹。

在此處rust作不及物動詞，說明主語的特征。謂語動詞要用主動形式。常見的同類動詞有：sell, write, dry, wash, open, move, lock等。例如：

The oranges sell well. 這些橘子很暢銷。

注意區(qū)分：系動詞taste, look, smell, feel, sound等后面要接形容詞作表語。例如：

The oranges taste good. 橘子嘗起來好吃。

2. Half-fill a test tube with water. 給玻璃試管灌一半水。

fill...with使......充滿；be filled with... 用......裝滿

used to do sth. 表示過去常常做某事。例如：

John used to visit his parents once a week when he worked as an assistant in the city.約翰在城里當服務員的時候，總是每周去看望父母一次。

拓展:1) be used to do sth. 被用來做某事。例如：

Wood can be used to make paper. 木材可以用來造紙。

2) be/get used to sth./ doing sth. 習慣于做某事。例如：

He was used to sleeping with the windows open. 他習慣敞著窗子睡覺。

4. The Noble Prize is the highest scientific prize there is，so we should be very proud of that。諾貝爾獎是科技領域曾有過的最高獎項，因此我們應以此為驕傲。

此處there is 是定語從句，修飾prize，表示曾有過的。例如：

The home improvements have taken what little there is of my spare time. (NMET2001)房屋裝修占據(jù)了我那么少的業(yè)余時間。

5. ...as both are supposed to have good physics Departments.因為兩所大學都應該有最好的物理系。

be supposed to +不定式短語，可以表示"應該""理應"含有"本來應該做某事，而事實上并非如此"之意。例如：

Everyone is supposed to wear a seat belt in the car. 坐車時每個人都應該系安全帶。
